Given:
Coordinates = $(a + 5, a - 3$ ) ....(i)
Since, the point $A$ lies on x-axis.
Coordinates of point A = $(x, 0)$ ...(ii)
Comparing equation (i) with equation (ii) we get,
$(a - 3)$ = $0$
$a$ = $3$
$a^{2} - a = 3^{2} - 3$
$a^{2} - a = 9 - 3$
$a^{2} - a = 6$ .
Therefore, value of $a^{2} - a$ is 6.
