The coordinates of the vertices of a rectangle are -3,5,0,-4,3,7 and 6,-2. How do you find the area of this figure?

Step 1: Find the area of triangle ABD

The four vertices are A-3,5,B0,-4,C3,7 and D6,-2

We know that the area of triangle joining three points x1,y1,x2,y2 and x3,y3 is given by

12x1y2-y3+x2y3-y1+x3y1-y2

Area of ABD=1207-5+35--4+-3-4-7

=1227+33=30sq.units

Step 2: Find the area of triangle BDC

Area of BDC=120-2-7+67--4+3-4--2

=1266-6=30sq.units

Step 3: Find the area of rectangle ABCD

Area of rectangle ABCD=Area of ABD+Area of BDC

=30+30=60sq.units

Hence, the required area of rectangle is 60sq.units
