The correct configuration assigned for compounds (I) and (II) respectively are R, S.
In case of compound (I) the order of priority is OH>COOH>CH3>H.
The lowest priority group is on the left hand side and the order of rotation is anticlockwise.
This results in R configuration.
In case of compound (II), the order of priority is OH>CH2CH3>CH2>H
The lowest priority group is below the plane of the paper i.e. on dash position and the order of rotation is clockwise. This leads to R configuration.
