Solution

The correct option is C (a)-(r), (b)-(p), (c)-(q), (d)-(s)
(a). Coloured impurities are separated by charcoal treatment. The coloured impurities are adsorbed on the charcoal because it is a good adsorbent.

(b). In ortho-nitrophenol we have intramolecular hydrogen bonding which makes it volatile and in p-nitrophenol we have intermolecular hydrogen bonding which is responsible for its high boiling point. Since, o-nitrophenol is volatile it can be easily separated by steam distillation.

(c). Crude naphtha and crude oils are separated by fractional distillation.

(d). Glycerol will degrade before attaining its boiling point. These kinds of compounds are seperated by distillation under reduced pressure.

Hence, option (c) is correct.
