Solution

The correct options are
B Only Cu2+ shows the formation of precipitate by passing H2S in acidic medium
D Cu2+/Cu has a higher reduction potential than Mn2+/Mn (measured under similar conditions)
a) Both Mn2+ and Cu2+ show characteristic green colour.

b) Passing H2S in acidic medium precipitates only Cu2+ ions because of its low Ksp value. It requires only low concentration of S2 ion whereas the Ksp value of Mn2+ ion is high and it requires high concentration of S2 ions which can be possible only in basic medium.
H2S2H+ +S2
NH4OH NH+4 +OH
In the basic medium, the H+ ions are consumed by OH ions which shifts the equilibrium in the forward direction and increases the concentration of S2 ions.

d) Cu2+/Cu has a higher reduction potential than Mn2+/Mn (measured under similar conditions).
