Steps to multiply 53 × 4 by lattice method––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
  1. To multiply the two-digit number 53 with one-digit number 4, we need 2×1 rectangle.
  2. And the face value of digits of the numbers 53 and 4 should be placed on the rectangle as shown in below figure,
  3. As in the above step, there are two smaller rectangles. We will draw the diagonals for each smaller rectangles ar shown in figure below,
  4. Multiply the digits on one side of rectangle by digits on other side one by one such as3×4=12, now digits 1 and 2 of 12 will be placed on opposite sides of diagonal of corresponding smaller rectangle as shown in figure below,Similarly for other digits5×4=20, 2 and 0 will be placed on opposite sides of diagonals of respective rectangle as depicted in below figure,
  5. Combine (add) the numbers which lie along the same diagonals as depicted in figure below,
  6. Join the numbers from left to bottom of the rectangle will give the product of 53×4 as depicted as in the figure below,
Therefore, correct order of given steps for multiplication 53×4 = 2,5,1,3,4.
