How to read the liquid level:-

  1. Place the graduated cylinder on a flat surface and view the height of the liquid in the cylinder with your eyes directly level with the liquid.
  2. The liquid will tend to curve downward.
  3. This curve is called the meniscus.
  4. Always read the measurement at the bottom of the meniscus.

Explanation for incorrect option:-

(B) Firstly the surface on which the measuring cylinder has been kept is not proper as it is inclined. Also, the eye level and meniscus are not same. Hence, it will give incorrect readings.

(C) The cylinder has not been kept on any surface and this would bring error in measurement.

(D) The eye level in this case is way below than meniscus and thus it is the very incorrect way of taking measurement.

Explanation for correct option:-

(A) Here, the cylinder has been kept on a proper horizontal surface and the eye level is also perfectly matching with the meniscus.

Hence, option A is the correct way of noting down the readings.
