The cost of 5 oranges and 3 apples is Rs. 35 and the cost of 2 oranges and 4 apples is Rs. 28. Find the cost of an orange and an apple by cross multiplication method.

Let the cost of 1 orange and 1 apple be x and y respectively.

5x+ 3y= 35

2x+4y =28

Solving the equation by cross multiplication:

xb1c2b2c1=yc1a2a1c2=1a1b2a2b1

After solving, we get x= 4 and y =5.

So, cost of an orange = Rs. 4

The cost of an apple = Rs. 5
