Solution

Let the cost of 1 orange and 1 apple be x and y respectively.

5x+ 3y= 35

2x+4y =28

Solving the equation by cross multiplication:

$\frac{x}{b_{1} c_{2} - b_{2} c_{1}} = \frac{y}{c_{1} a_{2} - a_{1} c_{2}} = \frac{- 1}{a_{1} b_{2} - a_{2} b_{1}}$

After solving, we get x= 4 and y =5.

So, cost of an orange = Rs. 4

The cost of an apple = Rs. 5
