Let pencil be x and let pen be y
8x+5y=120-----(1)
5x+8y=153------(2)
multiply first equation by 5
40x+25y = 600------(3)
multiply second equation by 8
40x+64y=1224------(4)
equ (4) - equ(3)
39y=624
y=16
put the value of y in equation (1)
then
8x+5y=120
8x+80=120
8x=40
x=5
then
cost of 1 pen=16
cost of 1 pencil=5
