Solution

Step-1 Calculating the mass of table salt (NaCl)and table sugar (C12H22O11)

(a) The atomic mass of Na =23g

The atomic mass of Cl= 35.5g

Molarmassoftablesalt(NaCl)=AtomicmassofNa+AtomicmassofCl

=23+35.5==58.5g

(b) The atomic mass ofC=12g

The atomic mass of H=1g

The atomic mass of O=16g

molarmassoftablesugar(C12H22O11)=(11×AtomicmassofO)+(12×AtomicmassofC)+2(2×AtomicmassofH)

=(11×16)+(12×12)+(22×1)=342g

Step-2 Calculating the costs per mole of table salt and sugar

(a) 1000g of table salt costs= 2rs

1g of salt costs= 2rs/1000g

58.5g(1mole) of salt costs =2rs/1000g×58.5g=0.117rs/mole

(b) 1000gof table sugar costs= 6rs

1gof salt costs= 6rs/1000g

342g (1mole) of sugar costs =6rs/1000g×342g=2.052rs/mole

Hence, Cost of table salt(NaCl) = 0.117rs/mole

Cost of table sugar (C12H22O11) = 2.052rs/mole
