Question

The cross bridges of the sarcomere in skeletal muscle are made up of?

Open in App
Solution

The myosin heads are known as cross-bridges because they can bind to and move along actin in the thin filament. It is this actin-myosin interaction that is the molecular basis for force generation and movement in muscle cells. The myosin (thick) filaments of muscle fibers slide past the actin (thin) filaments during muscle contraction, while the two groups of filaments remain at relatively constant length.
