Given,

The canal is 15m wide at the top and 9m wide at the bottom.

Area of the cross section=720m2

Let the depth of the canal be h

Area of a trapezium =12× Sum of parallel sides × height

720=12×(9+15)×h

720=24×h2

h=720×224

h=60

Hence, depth of the canal is 60 m.
