Question

The current generator, Ig, sends a constant current 1 A through the circuit. The wire cd is fixed and ab is made to slide on the smooth thick rails with a constant velocity 20 m/s towards right in a magnetic field of magnitude 1.5 T. Each of these wires has resistance 5 Ω and length of each wire is 0.5 m. Find the current through the wire cd.

Solution

The correct option is C 1 A
Let the current flowing through the wire cd is i,

Emf induced across the wire ab,

E=Blv=1.5×0.5×20=15 V

The equivalent circuit can be drawn as,

Applying KVL in the loop bcda,

(1i)×5155i=0

10i=10

i=1 A

Hence, (C) is the correct answer.
