The data of weekly wages of workers of a factory is given below.
Weekly Wages | Number of Workers |
800 - 999 | 20 |
1000 - 1199 | 14 |
1200 - 1399 | 17 |
1400 - 1599 | 25 |
1600 - 1799 | 9 |
1800 - 1999 | 12 |
Convert the above table in the form of exclusive class intervals.
Weekly Wages | Number of Workers |
799.5 - 999.5 | 20 |
999.5 - 1199.5 | 14 |
1199.5 - 1399.5 | 17 |
1399.5 - 1599.5 | 25 |
1599.5 - 1799.5 | 9 |
1799.5 - 1999.5 | 12 |
In order to convert the inclusive class intervals into exclusive class intervals, the following steps are to be adopted:
Step 1: Find the difference between the upper limit of a class interval and the lower limit of the next class interval. The upper limit of the class interval 800 - 999 is 999.The lower limit of the next class interval 1000 - 1199 is 1000. The difference is 1000 - 999 = 1.
Step 2: Half of this difference is added to the upper limit and half is subtracted from the lower limit of the class interval.
In this case half of 1 is 0.5, so, add 0.5 to the upper limit and subtract 0.5 from the lower limit of each class interval.
Therefore, we obtain the following frequency table:
Weekly Wages | Number of Workers |
799.5 - 999.5 | 20 |
999.5 - 1199.5 | 14 |
1199.5 - 1399.5 | 17 |
1399.5 - 1599.5 | 25 |
1599.5 - 1799.5 | 9 |
1799.5 - 1999.5 | 12 |
