Question

The degree of dissociation of Ca(NO3)2 in a dilute aqueous solution containing 7 g of salt per 100 g of water at 100oC is 75%. The vapour pressure of solution in mm is x, then find the value of x/150 to the nearest integer.

Open in App
Solution

Ca(NO3)211αCa2+0α+2NO302α
Total mole at equilibrium =1+2α
=(1+2×0.7)=2.4(α=0.7)
Also, mN/mexp=1+2α
mexp=mN1+2α=1642.4=68.33
Further at 100oC,P0H2O=760mm,w=7g,W=100g
P0PSPS=w×Mm×W
760PSPS=7×1868.33×100
PS=746.26mm=x
x/150=4.975
