Solution

The correct option is B 41.2
First write the balanced chemical equation for the formation of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and water :

C(s)+O2(g)CO2(g); ΔHo=393.5 kJmol1....(i)
C(s)+12O2(g)CO(g); ΔHo=110.5 kJmol1....(ii)
H2(g)+12O2(g)H2O(l); ΔHo=241.8 kJmol1....(iii)

then obtain the required equation by (ii) + (iii) - (i)
CO2(g)+H2(g)CO(g)+H2O(l) ΔHo=+41.2 kJmol1

hence, the standard enthalpy of the reaction is +41.2 kJmol1
