Question

The density of a gas at 760mm pressure and OoC temperature is 32. What will be its density at 570mm procedure, if the temperature remains constant?

Solution

Solution:-
From ideal gas equation-
PV=nRT
whereas,
P= pressure of the gas
V= volume it occupies
n= number of moles of gas present in the sample =mass of gas (m)molar mass of gas (M)
R= universal gas constant =0.0821atmLmol1K1
T= absolute temperature of the gas
PV=mMRT
PM=mVRT
As we know that,
mV=ρ(density)
PM=ρRT
For constant temperatur,
Density of a gas is directly proportional to the pressure, i.e.,
ρP
ρρ=PP
ρ=ρ×PP
Given that:-
P=760mm
ρ=32gL1
P=570mm
ρ=?
ρ=32×570760=24gL1
Hence, density at 570mm pressure will be 24gL1 .
