Question

The density of oxygen is 1.54 g L1 at STP. Determine the density of oxygen at 17C and 800 torr.

Open in App
Solution

d=MPRT
At STP, d1=MP1RT1
[P1=760 torr,T1=273 K;d1=1.43 g L1]

Given conditions,
d2=MP2RT2[P2=800 torr,T2=290 K;d2=?]
So, d2d1=P2T2×T1P1
d2=P2P1×T1T2×d1
=800760×273290×1.43=1.417 g L1.
