Question

The density of water is 1000 kg/m^3. If a solid of relative density 1.5 is placed in water, will it sink or float? Why?

Open in App
Solution

Relative density = [density of solid ]÷[density of water ]

1.5 = [density of solid ] / 1000

density of solid = 1.5×1000
1.5×10³ Kg/m³
Density of solid > density of water
So it sinks
