Question

The diagonals seg DF and seg EG of the square DEFG intersect at point M. If l(DM) = 7 cm, find l(EG).

Open in App
Solution

We know that the diagonals of a square are equal in length and the diagonals bisect each other at right angles.
In the square DEFG, the diagonals bisect each other at point M. So for the diagonal EG, EM will be equal to MG and for DF, DM will be equal to MF.
Length of DM = 7 cm = l(MF) ,l(ME) and l(MG)
But EG = EM + MG
= 7 cm + 7 cm
= 14 cm
So, the length of EG will be equal to 14 cm.
