The diagram below represents a process in plants. The setup was placed in bright sunlight. Answer the following questions:



(i) Name the physiological process depicted in the diagram. Why was oil added to the water?

(ii) When placed in bright sunlight for four hours, what do you observe with regards to the initial & final weight of the plant? Give a suitable reason for your answer.

(iii) What happens to the level of water when this setup is placed in:

(a) Humid Conditions
(b) Windy Conditions

(iv) Mention any three adaptations found in plants to overcome the process mentioned in (i).

(v) Explain the term "Guttation".

(i) Transpiration, Oil was added to the water to ensure that water is not lost by evaporation from the surface of water.
(ii) The weight will decrease, this is because the plant losses water due to transpiration.
(iii)
(a) Slight or no drop in level
(b) Drop in level of water in the jar as rate of transpiration increases.

(iv) Leaves reduced in size, leaves modified to spines, Thickened cuticle, Reduced number of stomata, sunken stomata.

(v) Loss of water in the form of droplets from the margin of leaves/ or through hydathodes.
