In the given set up, when dilute hydrochloric acid is poured through thistle funnel on the marble chips (CaCO3) in flask the gas is evolved. This gas is collected through the upward displacement of air. The gas evolved is carbon- dioxide. The reaction occurs as follows:

CaCO3+HClCaCl2+CO2+H2O

Hence, 'A' is Dilute HCl, 'B' is marble chips and 'C' is CO2.
