The diagram, given below shows two paths drawn inside a rectangular field 80 m long and 45 m wide. The widths of the two paths are 8 m and 15 m as shown. Find the area of the shaded portion.

The width of rectangle parallel to length of larger one is 15m
The length is 45m
Area of rectangle is 45×15=675m2

The width of rectangle parallel to Breadth of larger one is 8m
The length is 80m
Area of rectangle is 80×8=640m2

The length of common rectangle is 15
The breadth of common rectangle is 8m
Area of rectangle is 15×8=120m2

The area of shaded region is given as 675+640120=1195m2
