Question

The diagram shows the position of a ball as it rolls down a track. The ball took 0.5 s to roll from one position to the other.
a) State whether the motion of the ball is uniform or non-uniform.
b) What is the distance travelled by the ball in 2.5 s?
c) Find the average velocity of the ball from A to F.

Solution

a) As time taken by the body in going from one position to another is same but distance between 2 positions is not same, the body is covering unequal distances in equal intervals of time and therefore is in non uniform motion.

b) Ball took total 2.5s in going from A to F. So distance travelled by ball in 2.5s is distance between A & F i.e. 20cm.

c) Average velocity = Displacementtime

= 20cm2.5s

= 8cm/s
