The diameter of a lead ball is 2.1 cm. The density of the lead used is 11.34 g/cm3. What is the weight of the ball?

Open in App
Solution

Given diameter =2.1 cm

Then radius =1.05 cm

Volume of sphere =43πr3=43×227×(1.05)3cm3=4.86 cm3

Given density =massvolume=11.34 gm/cm3

Then mass of ball =11.34×4.86=55.11 gm

mass×acceleration due to gravity=weight

Converting to SI units:

mass of ball =0.05511 kg

acceleration due to gravity =9.81 m/s2

weightofball=0.05511×9.81=0.540 kg

Hence, the weight of the ball is 0.540 kg.
