Question

The diameters of the two circles are 32 cm and 24 cm. Find the radius of the circle having its area equal to the sum of the areas of the two given circle.

Open in App
Solution

Let, d be the diameter and r be the radius of circle

For circle 1, d1=32cm r1=16cm

For circle 2, d2=24cm r2=12cm

Area of circle 1 =πr21=π(16)2=256π

Area of circle 2 =πr22=π(12)2=144π

It is given that,
Area of circle 3 = Area of circle 1 + Area of circle 2

Area of circle 3 =256π+144π

πr23=(256+144)π where r3 is the radius of third circle

r3=256+144

r3=400=20

r3=20cm.
