If the difference is $x-(-6)$ then

$x-(-6)=-5$
$x=-5+(-6)=-5-6=-(5+6)$

$\Rightarrow$ $x=-11$

$\therefore$ The value of $x$ is $-11$ .

If the difference is $-6-x$ then
$-6-x=-5$
$-x=-5+6$
$-x=1$
$x=-1$
$\therefore$ The other possible value of $x$ is $-1$.
