The difference between the upper quartile (Q3) and the lower quartile (Q1) in a data set gives the interquartile range.
The steps to find the interquartile range are as follows:
1. Order the data in ascending order.
2. Find the median.
3. Calculate the median of both the lower and upper half of the data. The median of lower half of the data is called the lower quartile (Q1) and median of upper half of the data is called the upper quartile (Q3)
4. The IQR is the difference between the upper and lower quartiles.
