Let the 2 numbers be x and y
$\frac{x}{y} = \frac{7}{3}$
$x - y = 48$
$3 x = 7 y$
$x = \frac{7 y}{3}$
$= \frac{7 y}{3} - y = 48$
$= \frac{4 y}{3} = 48$
$y = \frac{48 \times 3}{4} = 36$
$x = y + 48 = 36 + 48 = 84$
