The difference of two numbers is 3.Their sum is 13.Find the numbers.

Let the two numbers be x and y , with x as larger number.
Given x-y=3 ----------------(1)
And x+y=13 ----------------(2)
From (1) we get x=3+y
Put x in (2)
3+y+y=13
2y=10
y=5

Put this y in (1) we get ,
x-5=3
x=8

So the two numbers are 5 and 8
