Physiology of digestion:

  2. Protein is mostly digested in the stomach upon the action of enzymes pepsin and rennin (especially for the digestion of milk protein- casein).
  3. Absorption and digestion of monosaccharides, disaccharides, peptones, dipeptides, proteoses, fats, and lipids take place in the intestine.
  4. Digestion of these biomolecules takes place in the small intestine upon the action of the intestinal juice.
  5. Intestinal juice is secreted by the Brunner's gland which is situated in the duodenum region of the small intestine.
  6. Intestinal juice is also known as Succus entericus.
