The dimensions of a metal block are 2.25 m by 1.5 m by 27 cm. It is melted and recast into cubes, each of side 45 cm. How many cubes are formed?
Given:
The dimensions of a metal block are 2.25 m by 1.5 m by 27 cm.
⇒l=2.25 m
b=1.5 m and h=27 cm
Lets convert in to the units cm.
Since, 1 m=100 cm
⇒ l=2.25 m=2.25×100 cm=225 cm
b=1.5 m=1.5×100 cm=150 cm and h=27 cm
We know that, Volume of cuboid =l×b×h
Volume of the block =225 cm×150 cm×27 cm
After melting, the side of each cube is 45 cm
⇒ Volume of each cube =(45 cm)3 [Since, Volume of cube =a3, where, a is side of the cube.]
Number of cubes =Volume of the blockVolume of each cube
=225 cm×150 cm×27 cm(45 cm)3
=225 cm×150 cm×27 cm45 cm×45 cm×45 cm
=5 cm×30 cm×3 cm1 cm×9 cm×5 cm
=303
=10
Therefore, the number of cubes =10.
