Question

The direction ratios of AB are (2,2,1) If A=(4,1,5) and l(AB)=6 units, find the coordinates of B.

Open in App
Solution

Let the coordinates of point B be (x1,y1,z1)

direction ratios of AB are 2,2,1

So, x14=2r

y11=2r

z15=r

But lenght of AB =6

(x14)2+(y11)2+(z15)2=6

(x14)2+(y11)2+(z15)2=36

4r2+4r2+r2=36

9r2=36

r=2 or r=2

if r=2

x1=0,y1=5,z1=7

and if r=2

x1=8,y1=3,z1=3

Therefore the point B is (0,5,7) or (8,3,3)
