Distance between the points $(3,1)$ and $(0,x)=\sqrt{(3-0{)}^2+(1-x{)}^2}$

or, $5=\sqrt{9+(1-x{)}^2}$

Squaring both sides we get,

or, $25=9+(1-x{)}^2$

or, $(1-x{)}^2=16$

or, $1-x=\pm 4$

or, $x=1-4$ or, $x=1+4$

or, $x=-3$ or, $x=5$

So, value of $x=-3$ or $5$
