Solution

The correct option is D 20 km/hr
Distance between X and Y = 600 km
Let the speeds of X and Y be x km/hr and y km/hr respectively.

As they are travelling towards each other, relative speed between them = Sum of their speeds = x+y km/hr
Time taken to meet each other when they start together = 12 hours
12 = 600x+y
x+y = 600/12 = 50 km/hr

If X starts moving 5 hours after Y, they meet in 10 hours.
Distance covered by X and Y in 10 hours = 10 × (x+y) = 10 × 50 = 500 km
Remaining Distance already covered by Y= 600 - 500 = 100 km
Speed of Y = 1005= 20 km/hr
