The distance of the point P(-6, 8) from the origin is

(a) 8 (b) 27 (c)6 (d)10

Open in App
Solution

The distance between two points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) is,

(x2x1)2+(y2y1)2

Now according to the question, The first point is P(-6,8) and another is the origin,

We know that coordinates of origin are (0,0),

Now substitute those values in the above formula, You can take either one of those as the first point, I am taking (-6,8) as the first point,

=> The distance between them = (0(6))2+(08)2
=> (36+64)=100=10

Therefore the distance between them is 10 units,
option d is correct
