Question

The driver of a car traveling at 36 km/h applies the brake to decelerate uniformly. The car stops in 10 sec. Plot the speed-time graph for this period. find the distance traveled by car during this period by calculating the area under the graph.

Open in App
Solution

Initial velocity of the car = 36 km/h = 10 m/s

Final velocity = 0

Time taken to stop = 10 sec

Speed time graph is as shown -

From the speed-time graph, we can find the distance traveled by finding the area of the graph

So,

Distance travelled = 12×10×10

After solving,

Distance traveled = 50 m = 50 m
