Solution

The chemical industries should treat the waste and then discharge the water effluents in the river. If the effluent discharge is exceeded with respect to the standard norms, the flora and the fauna of the river will be affected. Due to these chemicals, there will be growth of the algae on the upper surface of the river. Even if the water is coloured, there will be less penetration of the oxygen and light. This will affect the processes like respiration and photosynthesis in the plants. Eventually, the fauna will be destroyed and all the plants will die. This will result in the death of the flora as well due to the absence of oxygen.
