Acidified water contains ions such as H+, OH from dissociation of water and H+, A from the acid HA

When current is passed through the cell containing acidified water the H+ ions moves to the cathode and get reduce as :

H++eHH+HH2

Similarly the anions moves to the anode and upon prefferential oxidation of OH as :

OHOH+eOH+OHH2O+OO+OO2

Therefore it is an example of a redox reaction.
