Solution

Electronic configuration of M2+

= 2 + 8 + 14 = 24 e

Since two e has been lost in forming M2+ ion from metal

so total number of electron in the neutral atom should be = 24+2=26

The number of proton and electron are equal in a neutral atom.

Therefore number of proton is equal to 26.
