We can calculate the group number in the periodic table on the basis of the electrons present in the valence shell. If the number of electrons in the last shell is 1 or 2 then the group number is also 1 or 2 respectively. If the number of electrons is more than 2 then the group number can be found by adding 10 to the number of electrons. In this case since the number of electrons in the last shell is 4 so the group number is 14.
