The electronic configuration of an element is 2, 8, 4. Which group will the element belong to?
Group 14
We can calculate the group number in the periodic table on the basis of the electrons present in the valence shell. If the number of electrons in the last shell is 1 or 2 then the group number is also 1 or 2 respectively. If the number of electrons is more than 2 then the group number can be found by adding 10 to the number of electrons. In this case since the number of electrons in the last shell is 4 so the group number is 14.
