The element A and B have an electronic configuration (2, 8, 18, 2) and (2, 6) respectively.

(1)To which period do A and B belong?

As the electronic configurations are given in the above questions we can predict the group and period of it.

Electronic configuration of A: 2, 8, 18, 2

As we can see here in element A there are a total 4 of shells are present which indicates that it will belong from period 4 and as a total, only two electrons are in the last shell which indicates its group which is the 2nd group(alkaline earth metals).

Electronic configuration of B:2, 6

As we can see here in element B there are a total 2 of shells are present which indicates that it will belong to period 2 and as a total, six electrons are in the last shell which indicates its group which is the 16 group.
