Solution:
At the end of the Second World War, a new rivalry emerged between the USA and the USSR based on their different ideologies of capitalism versus communism.
This difference of ideology led to an environment of distrust, tension and a constant propaganda war between the two countries and their allies.
This propaganda war was aimed at weakening the power of the other side through use of words and signing military pacts without the actual use of guns came to be known as the Cold War.
This led to the creation of two powerful military blocs across the world. Most of the countries either joined NATO, the capitalist group, led by the American government or the Warsaw Pact in which the communist ideology was propagated by the Communist USSR. The Cold War eventually came to an end with the fall of the USSR in 1991.
