This is an example of Kiliani's synthesis. In this reaction, glucose reacts with hydrogen cyanide to form glucose cyanohydrin, which upon hydrolysis and reduction with hydriodic acid, (in presence of red phosphorous) produces heptanoic acid.

This results in an increase in chain length by one carbon atom. Hence, the correct option is D.
