Question

The ends of a long, tight rope are attached to two platforms. A tightrope artist walks along the tightrope and, upon reaching the middle, stops. Someone standing on one of the platforms generates a transverse wave pulse down the rope. When the pulse reaches the tightrope walker, he briefly rises upward, and the wave passes. This illustrates the fact that the string wave transports:

Solution

The correct option is A momentum
We know from the definition of wave that the disturbance or energy propagates in the medium not the medium. When a pulse passes through a rope it means transport of disturbance generated by a man on a platform through the rope or it means transport of energy . Medium (rope )will not transport and hence no transport of mass, weight and density of medium(rope). Now, wavelength means just the distance between two consecutive crests or troughs, how can a distance transport, infact it is the property of pulse.
As pulse is moving forward with a velocity therefore it is the transport of momentum.
