Ten per cent law: This law was put forth by Lindemann. This law states that during transfer of food energy from one trophic level to the other, only about 10% is stored at a higher trophic level and the remaining 90% is lost in respiration, decomposition and waste in the form of heat. In other words, the net productivity of the next higher level shall be only 10% of the previous level.
