The enthalpy change involved in the oxidation of glucose is 28850 kJ.mol1. 25% of this energy is available for muscular work. If 100 kJ of muscular work is needed to walk one kilometer. What is the maximum distance that a person will be able to walk after consuming 120 gm of glucose?

The correct option is A 4.8 km
1 mole of Glucose, C6H12O6 = 180 gm

120 gm glucose = 23 moles of glucose.

As 2880 KJ of energy is released by 1 mole of glucose.

Energy released = 2×28803= 1920 KJ

25% of 1920 kJ is available for muscular work.

480 KJ is available for muscular work.

Given that - 100 kJ is used per km.

The distance travelled is 480/100 = 4.8 km

Hence, option A is correct.
