Elongation of nascent polypeptide occurs by covalent attachment of successive amino acid residues which are carried to the ribosome and correctly positioned by its tRNA. The peptidyl transferase forms peptide bond between the carboxyl group of peptidyl tRNA present at P site and free amino group of peptidyl tRNA present at A site which means that elongation is enzymatic process.
