Formula for equivalent resistance in series
R=R1+R2
Formula for equivalent resistance in parallel
1R=1R1+1R2

Now, given circuit can be rearrange as in figure 2
Using formula for equivalent resistance in parallel
1R=1R1+1R2
Equivalent resistance beween B and C =R2
and it is in series with resistance(AC), So resistance of lower branch =3R2
Now, equivalent resistance between A and B
1Req=1R+23R
Req=3R5
Therefore, D is correct option.
